Where It's Made

Fern's Garden is dedicated to the fair treatment of artisans the world over (see About Us). We want you to know that we make every effort to ensure that the products you purchase at fernsgarden.com have been made in an ethical way. Every product on our site contains information on where and how the product was made.

USA: Most of our items are made in America, and we are proud to focus our buying on American artisans and products. The American artist has become an endangered species in this time where so much is being made offshore. Please join us in supporting the American artisan.

Canada: Canadian artists find themselves in the same position as those of America and Europe, competing with less expensive copies of their work flooding in from  overseas. Labor standards in our northern neighbor are among the highest in the world, and we are proud to carry many of their beautiful products.

Fair Trade: We are strong supporters of the Fair Trade Federation and proudly buy from its members. This organization works to ensure fair wages and good employment opportunities to economically disadvantaged artisans and farmers worldwide.

Ethical: Some of the companies we support make a huge difference in communities abroad but do not belong to the Fair Trade Federation. They support the artists of those communities, and frequently contribute to infrastructure improvements such as schools, sidewalks and water. We are proud to work with such companies.

Europe: Many of the artisans of Europe have found themselves in the same position as those in North America, competing with less expensive copies of their work from overseas. We are proud to support our colleagues across the Atlantic!

Australia: As with their colleagues in Europe and North America, many Australian artisans find themselves competing with less expensive copies of their work from overseas. We are proud to support our colleagues "down under"!

Japan: Japan was once itself a source of cheap labor, but this country now has some of the highest labor standards in the world. Consequently, its artisans often find themselves in the same position as those in the U.S.: competing with less  expensive copies of their work from overseas.

Latin America: From Mexico to Peru… These are unique, museum quality products that are hand made in the villages of Latin America. These items are intricate and beautiful. All of their manufacturers have assured us of their fair labor practices.
