Welcome to Ferns Garden, a place to find beautiful, hand crafted, affordable items that are made in the U.S.A. or abroad in an ethical manner. The artisans here that create and share their beautiful work earn a fair wage, and we support many American made companies. For the creations that are made abroad, we strive to seek out makers that pay fair wages and give back to their communities. You will notice that every product on this site explains where and how it is made. When you buy at Fern's Garden, you can purchase something beautiful and feel good about helping those who really put their hands and heart into the work.
Owner Fern Solomon has over 40 years of experience in the gift industry, first as a maker and eventually opening her own gift store in Long Beach, California in 2004. Her background in the maker world (Jacob's Musical Chimes and Heart the Moment) has given her a unique perspective and insight into the challenges American craftspeople face. Fern has lived through many sea changes in the gift industry, experiencing hardships first-hand and witnessing the difficulties faced by her colleagues. She realized that even one great store focused solely on American Artisan & Fair Trade products could make a difference.
In 2017 Fern's Garden opened in Berkeley, California. When you enter the store, you'll find a wonderland of ethically made gifts for the home and garden. Here you'll find Fern and her daughter, co-manager Lia Rose, zipping around the store, as well as a team of talented and dedicated employees. Fern was thrilled to bring her daughter on board; Lia now splits her time working at Fern's Garden and as a musician. The two have been working together to expand and improve the greeting card and jewelry sections, among many others. With the addition of Fern's granddaughter (Lia's niece) Lily Rose, the Garden now claims three generations of ownership.
Thank you for joining us in our mission to support home grown talent, and support the beautiful art and craft created in this country. Thank you for your support, and for spreading the word. We thank you, and the artists thank you even more!
